Rock For Layla

Layla is 2 years old and was diagnosed on May 7, 2009 with stage 4 Neuroblastoma. For the last 8 months, she has continued to fight – enduring numerous surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, a bone marrow harvest and transplant, tests and hospital stays. January 22, 2010, Layla’s doctors discovered a new tumor invading Layla’s one functioning kidney. They have told her parents to prepare themselves for their last few months with Layla. Financial struggles should be the last thing on a parents’ mind at a time like this. All proceeds from ROCK FOR LAYLA will help alleviate the medical bills that have been accumulated throughout Layla’s treatment.

ONSTAGE EVENTS PRESENTS :: NEW ORLEANS APPRECIATION NIGHT!

featuring Legendary Member of THE METERS and THE NEVILLES

GEORGE PORTER JR. AND RUNNIN PARDNERS! with Guests TBA

Few Bass Players in the history of Modern New Orleans Music are as storied as George Porter Jr. During the course of a career spanning four decades, Porter has not only made a deep impression with his work in THE METERS but has notched sessions with artists as diverse as Paul McCartney, David Byrne, Jimmy Buffet, Patti Labelle, Robbie Robertson and Tori Amos. Early in his career Porter worked with Seminal New Orleans Artists like Allan Toussaint, Earl King, Lee Dorsey and Johnny Adams. Back in 1965 Porter joined THE METERS, considered by most to be the ultimate fusion of Rock, Funk and R&B, and gained recognition as one of the scene's Elite Bass Players.

This will be a night you will not want to miss as The Meridian (Now WIRED LIVE) reaches out to show its appreciation to our neighbors to the east. We will have Free Red Beans and Rice and other goodies and just a general overall atmosphere of New Orleans fun.  As we say Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!

DAYS OF THE NEW

with   Witness The Fall :: Hindsight ::

38 Caliber Hero :: Fan To Flame

Alternative / Indie Rock: By the late '90s, a whole new generation had missed out on experiencing the likes of Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Nirvana first-hand (with some perhaps not even knowing of their existence at all), so a new crop of similarly styled bands picked up the slack, including Days of the New. Originally hailing from Charlestown, IN, before relocating to Louisville, KY, the group's leader from the get-go was singer/guitarist/songwriter Travis Meeks.R.E.M. producer Scott Litt, who signed the group to his newly formed label, Outpost, and oversaw the group's self-titled 1997 release. The album was an immediate hit with the MTV crowd on the strength of such singles as "Touch, Peel and Stand" and "The Down Town," and the group spent the summer of 1998 opening up for another one of their musical heroes, Metallica. But during the tour, rumors of an impending breakup circulated (which) proved to be true. 1999 saw the release of Days of the New's sophomore release. 2000 saw Meeks cover the Doors classic "The End" with the surviving Doors members for a taping of VH1's Storytellers series (as well as recording a studio version that appeared on the Doors tribute disc Stoned Immaculate: The Music of the Doors), as he continued writing for the third Days of the New album, with their leader now letting elements of prog rock seep into the music. ~ ~ Adapted from SITE

Retribution Gospel Choir Onstage Events Presents

Retribution Gospel Choir
Featuring
       Alan Sparkhawk of LOW

with THE BLOODY MUSHROOMS and more TBA

Retribution Gospel Choir debuted in 2005 as primarily a live enterprise spearheaded by two seminal masters of spare, quiet indie rock, Low's Alan Sparhawk and Mark Kozelek of the Red House Painters and Sun Kil Moon. A series of enthusiastically received tours found the two guitarists reveling in the opportunity to rock out far more than they ever did their main bands, unleashing sludgy, classic rock-infused riffage and squalling simultaneous solos, and covering of the likes of Neil Young and the Rolling Stones. By the time the group got around to releasing their self-titled debut in March of 2008, following and reprising material from a pair of looser, jammier tour EPs, they'd shrunk from a quartet to a trio, including two out of three members of Low (Sparhawk and bassist Matt Livingston) along with drummer Eric Pollard of Duluth band No Wait Wait. Kozelek, though no longer a member of the group, served as producer for the album and released on his own Caldo Verde imprint.

Between The Buried And Me

Onstage Events Presents

Between The Buried And Me

Alternative Metal / Thrash: Between the Buried and Me is a thinking man's hardcore unit hailing from Raleigh, NC. The band began in 2000 after the dissolution of vocalist Tommy Rogers and guitarist Paul Waggoner's previous group, Prayer for Cleansing. Rogers and Waggoner completed their new lineup with the addition of guitarist Nick Fletcher, bassist Jason King (ex-Azazel), and drummer Mark Castillo, formerly of Bury Your Dead. A debut soon appeared, and the band supported its release with an avid tour schedule. Between the Buried and Me signed with Chicago powerhouse Victory in the summer of 2002 and began work on their debut for the label. The Silent Circus appeared in late October of the following year; it showcased a more focused fusion of the group's math rock, heavy metal, and post-hardcore influences. The band paid tribute to many of their influences — from Pantera to Queen to Pink Floyd — on the covers album The Anatomy Of, which surfaced in June 2006. That fall, Victory reissued The Silent Circus with an additional bonus DVD of material. In 2007, they went to the studio with producer Jamie King and recorded Colors, which was described as "new wave polka grunge" by the band. The Great Misdirect, the band's fifth studio album, appeared two years later.

Hard Rock / Metal: Hailing from Los Angeles, CA, hard rock/ metal band Earshot formed in 1999. Singer-songwriter Wil Martin has cited Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Metallica, AC/DC, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens, and countless other bands as influences and inspirations. The band's debut album, "Letting Go," featured the song "Get Away." It received significant radio airplay, while the song "Headstrong" was featured in the motion picture "Queen of the Damned." After months of touring with the likes of Staind, Kid Rock and Stone Temple Pilots, "Get Away" peaked at #4 on the Active Rock charts in the U.S. and stayed in the Top 100 for over 60 weeks. The band's second album, "Two," was released in 2004. It included the breakthrough hit "Wait", which was featured on the Madden NFL 2005 video game soundtrack and the MX vs. ATV Unleashed video game soundtrack. It was also featured in the Tampa Bay Lightning 2004 Stanley Cup Champions DVD. In 2008, Earshot released their 3rd album, "The Silver Lining," and featured the band's 4th radio single “MisSunderstood”.
